Apple AirPods Review

I’m no stranger to wireless headphones. In fact I owned 2 pairs of bluetooth headphones before I decided to get the Apple AirPods. It’s been 5 months since I bought my AirPods and thought it was time to give my take on Apples wireless headphones.

The Fit

First off if Apple’s wired headphones don’t fit then AirPods aren’t for you. Luckily for me they fit like a glove. I prefer Apples’ take on headphones vs. the in-ear style of headphones. In-ear headphones hurt my ears after a short period of time. I have worn Apple’s AirPods everyday on and off all day for 5 months straight. Half the time I forget I even have them in they are so comfortable.

My typical use case is I listen to podcasts first thing in the morning and throughout my day and music if I have listened to all of my regular podcasts. I use AirPods while mowing the lawn, work, laying in bed and even jogging. They have not once fell out while doing any physical activity.

The Convenience

The best part of AirPods (besides the fit) is the charging case. This is where I think Apple nailed the design. While the case is small it fits perfectly within the change pocket of my jeans and shorts (that little pocket almost no one uses).

Now, this part is a double edged sword and where I think needs some explaining. Now the AirPods sync with your Apple devices but does not automatically switch to that device even though the animation of your Aipods and the battery life show up as illustrated below.

Apple AirPods

So for example if I was using my AirPods on my iPhone and wanted to use it on my iPad I had to go into control center, click on a tiny circle icon and select AirPods in order to use my AirPods with my iPad.

One thing that boggles my mind is why Apple didn’t add a connect button on the AirPods animation that shows up like so.

AirPods Connect

Don’t even get me started with how the Mac connects. But basically you click on the bluetooth icon and select connect to AirPods. The AirPods animation with battery life doesn’t even show up.

Battery Life

There are plenty of reviews that go into how long the battery lasts and so on. You can Google those reviews for length of time. You see with me battery life isn’t a factor because I don’t leave my AirPods in my ears all day, I use them throughout the day. If it wasn’t for the charging case I would not use the AirPods as much. It’s weird how after owning the AirPods for 5 months they have never run out of juice for me. I kinda juggle between putting them into the case and using them throughout the day.

Sound Quality

I listen to Podcasts and Skate punk. I can hear both podcasts and music over my very loud gas powered lawn mower and weed eater at maximum volumes and have never heard a weird crackle or issue that sometimes happens with speakers at max volume. I spend on average between 2-4 hours on my lawns every week.

AirPods + AppleWatch

I have a series 1 AppleWatch. It’s like 3 years old and in perfect condition. If you have an AppleWatch AirPods is a must. When I’m doing my lawn or jogging on my treadmill I pair the Watch to my AirPods and listen to podcasts and music through my AppleWatch. I also control audio volume, play/pause with my AppleWatch as well.

Do I Recommend AirPods?

If EarPods (Apple’s wired headphones) fit you well and you’re invested in Appleland and subscribe to Apple Music then I highly recommend that you get AirPods. If you’re a casual headphone user and not someone that’s super active and need headphones that stay in while say rock climbing then yeah I recommend AirPods. For me AirPods are perfect for the casual user that doesn’t demand much. The everyday user.
