Goodbye 2019

Goodbye Social

I’m not going to apologize for not posting in almost 6 months like I usually do. I’ve taken one of my largest social network sabbaticals ever. I’ve been off Facebook and Instagram for years which isn’t new. The last holdout was Twitter. I haven’t been on Twitter for 6 months. You see all the social networks you go on are based upon some stupid algorithm that tries to manipulate you into coming back. Twitter used to be great at real time info but now it’s all about the algorithm. I noticed posting on Twitter was like throwing shit against the wall hoping that it would stick. 99.99% of what I posted had zero response. I also noticed I got almost zero value from Twitter as well. I would check Twitter multiple times a day with no good information to show for it.

At first I had anxiety and the fear of missing out. Now nada. I stay informed with RSS via Feedly for all my web development stuff and News apps for things like video games and general news. Family stuff my wife let’s me know. And that’s the kicker really. It’s nice having my wife inform me about what’s going on. We can have conversations about stuff instead of us both saying, “yeah I know I saw that already”.

Goodbye Appleland

This one may seem like a shocker but I’m saying Goodbye to buying only Apple. I’m looking into buying a Note 10 plus. There are so many reasons behind this and I plan on writing a post about it as soon as I get the phone. The main reason for now is Football. I’m a Greenbay Packers fan that lives in California. With Android I can fake my gps location to watch Packers games. The other is I feel the price of the phone vs what you get isn’t worth it for me anymore. And the third is the slowdown  that plagued Android after months of ownership isn’t happening anymore and IOS has been buggy as hell.

Goodbye Bad Projects

I learned the hard way which projects not to work on anymore. I had a few really bad side projects that taught me a ton about where I’m at in my career and at this stage of my life. I will no longer work on legacy applications without a clear direction of what the client wants.

Goodbye 30’s

I’m turning 40 in 2020. Honestly I don’t really care that much about my age. Ask anyone who knows me. I still feel and act like a kid.

2019 is almost at an end. I’ve had some milestones like my oldest son moved out, my daughter is in high school now and I’ve accomplished my first full year of working remote. I’m grateful for 2019 but I’m super excited for 2020. I’m up for some major life changes next year and can’t wait to post once they happen.
