Launching a single website is no small feat, but launching 12 websites in just one year? That was the ambitious challenge I tackled for the Clark County School District (CCSD). It was a whirlwind of content creation, design innovation, and technical problem-solving, but by the end of the year, we had 12 unique, functional, and user-focused websites live and thriving. Here’s how it all happened.

1. The Vision: Why 12 Websites?

CCSD had a clear need for updated, purpose-driven platforms to support its wide range of initiatives. Each website had a distinct focus, from showcasing school Magnet School Options to tackling attendance issues with Everyday CCSD along with addressing Teacher hiring issues with Recruitment.

The goal was to launch these sites to align with district milestones, marketing campaigns, and school-year timelines. It was an ambitious timeline, but with careful planning and prioritization, it was achievable.

2. Planning for Success

A Cohesive Roadmap

The first step was creating a master plan:
• Timeline Creation: I broke the year into sprints, each dedicated to a set of websites, ensuring no two launches overlapped.
• Resource Allocation: Whether it was content, design, or technical support, each phase had dedicated resources to stay on track.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Aligning with CCSD departments and schools ensured each site met its specific goals.

Custom Solutions for Each Website

Each site had its own needs, audience, and design requirements. For instance:

Magnet Schools: Focused on enhancing student recruitment and application processes to provide specialized educational opportunities.

Recruitment: Addressed teacher shortages by developing innovative strategies to attract and retain educators.

Newsroom: Provided district-wide information to inform the public.

3. Executing the Launches

Each website had to be unique yet cohesive.
• Unified Branding: CCSD’s visual identity tied all 12 sites together, ensuring a consistent district presence.
• Flexible Design Systems: Templates were customized to highlight the individuality of each program or initiative.

Technical Implementation

• Scalable Architecture: A reliable, centralized framework supported all sites, making maintenance and updates more manageable.
• Accessibility Standards: Meeting ADA requirements was a priority to ensure inclusivity.
• Testing and Debugging: Each site underwent rigorous testing to eliminate bugs before launch.

4. The Final Countdown: 12 Launches in 12 Months

The launch schedule was staggered throughout the year, ensuring each site received the attention it deserved. Soft launches allowed for user feedback before the official go-live dates.

Training and Handoffs

I conducted training sessions with site administrators to empower them to manage updates and keep their sites fresh. This ensured the sustainability of each platform.

5. Reflections on a Year of Achievement

Completing 12 websites in a year taught me invaluable lessons:
• The Power of Teamwork: Collaboration with CCSD staff and departments was critical.
• Organization Is Everything: Detailed timelines and clear communication kept the project on track.
• Flexibility Yields Success: Adjusting plans as needed ensured we stayed aligned with the district’s evolving priorities.

What’s Next?

The success of these 12 websites is just the beginning. As CCSD continues to grow, these platforms will evolve to meet the community’s needs. Looking back on this year of rapid innovation and teamwork, I couldn’t be prouder of what we accomplished.
